A little bit of Heatons history

Our success story began in 1986, when a small, family-run stationery company was set up on the Wirral. Now nearly 30 years later, with over 80 members of staff, based across four different offices we have become one of the largest suppliers of complete office solutions in the UK.

Heatons – Our journey to become a nationwide provider of office solutions.

The story begins

Heaton Stationery Ltd. was established in 1986 by Managing Director, David Heaton Fielding. It began as a small, family-run business based in Hoylake on the Wirral, providing stationery to local businesses at competitive pricing with a personal service.

Just four years later in 1991 Heatons moved to bigger premises on Station Road to be able to better meet the needs of its expanding customer base.

The business continued to thrive and Heaton Stationery quickly grew into one of Merseyside’s largest office suppliers, establishing a firm foothold in the Northwest.

Continuing expansion

Within just 8 years, Heatons had once again outgrown its premises and in 1999 the business moved to Lairdside Technology Park in Birkenhead.

Heaton Stationery changed its name to Heatons Complete Office Solutions in order to reflect the additional services it was able to offer. With dedicated departments for Office Interiors, Print and Promotion, as well as Workwear, Heatons now offered a complete one-stop-shop office solution. Together with a highly motivated salesforce and a continued emphasis on customer service excellence, the business continued to go from strength to strength.

Extending our customer base

In 2010 Heatons acquired Lakeland Office Point and Lakeland Business Systems in Penrith and two years later, the Lakeland Office acquired the stationery division of Integrity Office Supplies. This created one of the largest independent reseller’s in Cumbria - Lakeland Integrity.

In 2013 Heatons went on to acquire Webber Office Solutions in Rhyl, servicing customers from Chester and Wrexham through to Holyhead and the Llŷn Peninsula.

In the same year we also acquired McGregors, a family-run business based in Macclesfield. McGregors proved a perfect fit to the existing business and further strengthened our existing customer services and delivery teams in Cheshire.

Now employing over 80 staff, Heatons had become one of the UK’s largest independent dealers, offering free, nationwide, next-day delivery on over 22,000 products to thousands of businesses across the UK.

The new face of our business

In 2014 we came together as a group, and each office became known as Heatons. The branches gained access to improved resources and this unified approach meant we were able to offer a stronger and more efficient service to all of our customers, both at a local and national level.

A refresh to the company brand also helped mark this as a key milestone in Heatons journey, to becoming a nationwide provider of complete office solutions.

What next?

Heatons continues to expand and develop our business, whilst adapting to the growing needs of our customers. This year we will offer a more extensive range of education supplies for primary schools and early years learning. We will also expand our range of Managed Print Service options to help our customers achieve greater savings through more effective print management.

We continue to pride ourselves on being able to offer a local service with national coverage.
