Supporting football from the grassroots

AC Hoylake Junior Football Club was established in 2001 to serve the community of Hoylake and West Kirby and now has over 500 players in 41 teams, including a thriving girls’ section. The club ethos is to ensure that ALL children have the opportunity to take part and enjoy football from a young age. The coaches help develop their skills through a mix of training, mini-soccer and junior football matches in a safe, fun environment.

Paul Williams, Procurement Manager, has been volunteering for 20 years at AC Hoylake JFC. Initially roped in when his youngest joined the club he has since taken over the full running to became Club Chairman.

“The club has seen huge growth and we now have 40 teams and 500+ players aged between 5 and 18, including a thriving girl’s section. Fortunately, I have a fantastic committee to share the workload and make sure coaches have time with the players and don’t become bogged down in admin.

Our club is one of the most well respected in the area, many join us at a young age and continue right through to the end of youth football, so we must be doing something right. We’re always looking for ways to improve things for the players and coaches to stay at the forefront of grassroots football.”

Danny Young, Commercial Director, has also been a volunteer coach at the same club for over 7 years, taking a team of under 7s right through to under 14s. This consists of mid-week evening training sessions, as well as matches played on Saturday mornings. He is also on the club committee, responsible for the running of the club, finances, fundraising and how to keep more kids coming back to play football every season.

“I find the role very rewarding and really enjoy seeing the individuals and the team develop. The club itself is a great club to be involved with and the coaches have the right ethos of development over winning. The focus is on children enjoying their football in the right environment and the club has grown massively as a result. It’s a big commitment to be a coach as it does take up a lot of your time but it’s all worthwhile.”

Heatons also support the club with sponsorship of players and coaching kits, as well as with our wide range of services such as embroidery for club garments, flyers for fundraising right through to the production of their bespoke medals and trophies for the end of season presentations.
